Best Cameras for Landscape Photography

Landscape photography is all about crisp, clear images that can capture the beauty and awe of being there in person.  To get those razor-sharp images, you’ll need to use the lowest ISO that the light level will allow.  The best cameras for landscape photography will also have full-frame sensors to help deliver the life-like images that make landscape photography so powerful.

Keep in mind that getting to your spot comfortably is an important part of taking good landscape shots.  Weight and size can be important considerations when choosing the best camera for you but, as you’ll see from some of our recommendations, a few more ounces didn’t really sway us.  Here are some of the best cameras that we think will help you get that perfect picture.

1. ) Nikon D850

The Nikon D850 is a great choice for landscape photography.  At 45.7 megapixels, you’ll get the ultra-high resolution you need to make your viewer feel like they’re with you in the great outdoors.  The camera also has a full-frame sensor which, as we mentioned before, is one of the best features to have for landscape photography.

The 4k and 8k time-lapse feature helps you take thousands of shots over time to help you find the perfect light to show off your scene.

2) Sony A7R IV

The Sony A7R IV is another full-frame mirrorless camera that can take your landscape photography to the next level.  It’s more compact than the Nikon D850 and can shoot at 61.0 megapixels.  It’s designed to shoot in high resolution with a wide dynamic range.

Other cool features are 5-axis image stabilization to help you make use of that high 61.0 megapixel resolution and superior performance in low light conditions.

3) Fujifilm GFX 100

We went  little megapixel crazy on this one.  At 102 megapixels, the Fujifilm GFX 100 certainly deserves a spot on our list of best cameras for landscape photography.  The resolution is virtually unrivaled.

Even though this camera may look heavy, the magnesium alloy body makes it a lot lighter than it looks.  The Fujifilm GFX 100 is designed for the outdoors with a weather-resistant body.

There are too many features to list, so be sure to click on the learn more button to…well, you know.

4) Canon Powershot G9X Mark II

This little guy deserves a mention on our list of best cameras for landscape photography for a couple reasons.  First – the best camera is the one you have on you. And second – when you’re hiking, ounces are pounds and pounds are pain.

The Canon Powershot G9X Mark II is small, lightweight and easy to keep on you at all times.  It weighs just 7.2 ounces and can take photos at 20.1 megapixels.  Think of it as the sidearm of your photography arsenal.

The high resolution needed to take amazing landscape photography makes it one of the more expensive niches, but it can be one of the most rewarding.  It takes a lot of skill to convey the same feeling of awe in a photo that one feels when standing on the edge of the Grand Canyon but we feel a great camera certainly doesn’t hurt.
